東京から電車で約2時間半。伊豆半島の南に、下田はあります。
「都心から意外と近いね」とよく言われますが、ここには都会とはまったく違う時間が流れています。
About 2.5 hours by train from Tokyo. Shimoda is located in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula. People often say, "It's surprisingly close to the city center," but time flows completely differently here than in the city.
目の前に広がる青い海と、白い砂浜。一年を通して温暖な気候。
港にあがる新鮮な魚介と、太陽をたっぷり浴びた野菜や柑橘類。
そして、幕末の開国の舞台となった、歴史の面影が残る街並み。

下田の自慢は、なんといっても透明度の高い、美しい海です。サーフィンで賑わう白浜海岸（車で約10分）から、家族連れでのんびり過ごせる鍋田浜（徒歩約15分）、静かなプライベート感が魅力の入田浜（車で約15分）まで、気分や目的によって行き先を選べるのが嬉しいところ。夏はもちろん多くの人で賑わいますが、海が好きな人たちが「一番きれいだ」と口を揃えるのは、空気が澄んだ秋から冬にかけて。混雑が落ち着いた浜辺を散歩する時間は、とても贅沢です。
Shimoda's pride is, above all, its highly transparent and beautiful sea. From Shirahama Beach (about 10 mins by car), bustling with surfers, to Nabetahama Beach (about 15 mins on foot), perfect for a relaxing time with family, and Iritahama Beach (about 15 mins by car), attractive for its quiet private feel, you can choose your destination depending on your mood and purpose. While it is crowded in summer, sea lovers unanimously agree that it is "the most beautiful" from autumn to winter when the air is clear. Taking a walk on the uncrowded beach is a very luxurious time.

下田は、金目鯛の水揚げ量が日本一の港町。甘辛く煮付けた「煮付け」は、この街を代表する味です。もちろん、新鮮だからこそ味わえるお刺身も格別。伊勢海老やサザエといった、磯の香り豊かな魚介も豊富です。昔ながらの食堂や、腕利きの寿司屋で、下田ならではの味を楽しんでください。
Shimoda is a port town with the highest catch of Kinmedai (Splendid Alfonsino) in Japan. The sweet and salty "Nitsuke" (simmered fish) is a representative dish of this town. Of course, sashimi, which can only be enjoyed fresh, is also exceptional. There is an abundance of seafood with a rich scent of the rocky shore, such as spiny lobster and turban shell. Please enjoy the unique taste of Shimoda at traditional diners and skilled sushi restaurants.

New Shops Opening
最近の下田の面白いところは、新しいお店がどんどん生まれていること。東京で腕を磨いた職人さんが握るお寿司屋さん、港の景色を眺めながら本格的な薪窯ピッツァが食べられるお店、地元の素材を活かしたジェラート屋さんなど、移住してきた若い世代が始める個性的で素敵なお店が増えています。風まち下田のグルメガイドでも、そんなお店をたくさん紹介しています。
The interesting thing about Shimoda recently is that new shops are being born one after another. A sushi restaurant where an artisan who honed his skills in Tokyo makes sushi, a restaurant where you can eat authentic wood-fired pizza while looking at the port view, a gelato shop that utilizes local ingredients... Unique and wonderful shops started by the younger generation who have relocated are increasing. We introduce many such shops in our Gourmet Guide.

伊豆半島は、はるか南の海にあった火山島が、プレートの移動によって本州に衝突してできた、というダイナミックな歴史を持っています。下田のユニークな地形や景観は、その地球の物語の証です。
The Izu Peninsula has a dynamic history of being formed when a volcanic island far in the southern sea collided with Honshu due to plate movement. Shimoda's unique topography and landscape are testaments to that story of the earth.
RYUGUKUTSU
龍宮窟（車で約15分）
Ryugukutsu Cave (About 15 mins by car)
波の力で岩が削られてできた、洞窟（海食洞）。天井が一部崩れて穴が開いていて、そこから差し込む光が水面を照らす光景は、とても神秘的です。上から見下ろすとハートの形に見える、不思議な場所でもあります。
A sea cave created by the power of waves scraping the rocks. The ceiling has partially collapsed, creating a hole, and the sight of the light shining through illuminating the water surface is very mystical. It is also a magical place that looks like a heart shape when looking down from above.
EBISU JIMA
恵比寿島（車で約10分）
Ebisu Jima Island (About 10 mins by car)
島の周囲をぐるりと一周できる遊歩道があり、海の景色を眺めながらの散策が気持ちのいい場所です。太古の火山活動の跡が残る地層を間近に見ることもできます。透明度が高いので、磯遊びやシュノーケリングにも人気のスポットです。
There is a promenade where you can walk all the way around the island, making it a pleasant place to stroll while enjoying the ocean view. You can also see the strata that bear the marks of ancient volcanic activity up close. Due to its high transparency, it is also a popular spot for playing on the rocky shore and snorkeling.
TSUMEKIZAKI
爪木崎（車で約20分）
Tsumekizaki Cape (About 20 mins by car)
俵磯（たわらいそ）と呼ばれる、柱状の岩が整然と並ぶ珍しい景色が見られます。白い灯台からの眺めも素晴らしく、夏は海水浴やシュノーケリングも楽しめます。冬には300万本の野水仙が咲き誇る、下田を代表する景勝地です。
You can see a rare sight of columnar rocks neatly lined up, called "Tawara-iso". The view from the white lighthouse is also wonderful, and you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the summer. In winter, 3 million wild daffodils are in full bloom, making it a representative scenic spot of Shimoda.
歴史の面影を歩く
Walk Through Living History
江戸時代、200年以上続いた鎖国政策に終止符が打たれ、日本が開国するきっかけとなった舞台が、ここ下田です。黒船を率いて来航したペリー提督との間で、日米和親条約の細則を定める日米下田条約が結ばれました。街のあちこちに、当時の面影と歴史の物語が今も息づいています。
During the Edo period, Shimoda became the stage that triggered the opening of Japan, putting an end to the national isolation policy that lasted for over 200 years. Vestiges of that time and historical stories are still alive everywhere in the town.
PERRY ROAD
ペリーロード（徒歩約10分）
Perry Road (About 10 mins on foot)
日米下田条約締結のためにペリー一行が行進した道。なまこ壁の建物や石畳が続く風情のある小径で、川沿いの柳並木をのんびり散策するのがおすすめです。
The road where Perry's party marched for the conclusion of the Treaty of Shimoda. It is a charming narrow path lined with "Namako" wall buildings and cobblestones. Taking a leisurely stroll along the willow-lined river is highly recommended.
RYOSEN-JI & GYOKUSEN-JI
了仙寺（徒歩約15分）と玉泉寺（徒歩約20分）
Ryosen-ji Temple (15 mins walk) & Gyokusen-ji Temple (20 mins walk)
了仙寺は日米下田条約が締結された歴史的に重要な場所で、境内には「黒船ミュージアム」も。玉泉寺は、日本で最初のアメリカ領事館が置かれたお寺として知られています。
Ryosen-ji is a historically important place where the Treaty of Shimoda was concluded, and the "Kurofune Museum" is located in the precincts. Gyokusen-ji is known as the temple where the first American consulate in Japan was established.

風まち下田の周辺は、海沿いの景色を楽しみながら気軽に歩いたり、走ったりできるコースが豊富です。朝の散歩や、仕事の合間のリフレッシュにぴったりです。
Around Kazemachi Shimoda, there are plenty of courses where you can casually walk or run while enjoying the seaside scenery. It is perfect for a morning walk or refreshing between work.

KUROFUNE FESTIVAL
黒船祭（5月）
Kurofune Festival (May)
毎年5月に開催される、街が一年で最も賑わうお祭り。幕末の開国を記念したこの祭りでは、当時の衣装を身にまとった人々のパレードや、再現劇が街のあちこちで行われます。国際色豊かな出店が並び、夜には港から大輪の花火が打ち上がります。歴史とエンターテイメントが融合した、エネルギッシュな3日間です。この時期の宿泊予約は、早めがおすすめです。
An annual festival held in May, the liveliest time of the year for the town. Commemorating the opening of the country at the end of the Edo period, parades of people dressed in costumes of the time and reenactment plays are held all over the town. Large fireworks are launched from the port at night. Early booking for accommodation is recommended during this time.
SHIMODA TAIKO FESTIVAL
下田太鼓祭り（8月14日・15日）
Shimoda Taiko Festival (August 14-15)
夏の訪れを告げる、下田八幡神社の例大祭。お揃いの法被に身を包んだ男衆が、太鼓や笛の音に合わせて「お道具」と呼ばれる豪華な装飾の山車を担ぎ、街を練り歩きます。体に響き渡る太鼓の音と、街を包む熱気は圧巻の一言。港町に生きる人々の魂を感じる、勇壮な祭りです。
The regular festival of Shimoda Hachiman Shrine that signals the arrival of summer. Men dressed in matching Happi coats carry gorgeously decorated floats and parade through the town to the sound of drums and flutes. It's a heroic festival where you can feel the soul of the people living in the port town.

SAKURA
桜（2月〜4月）
Cherry Blossoms (Feb-Apr)
2月には、隣町の河津町で全国的にも有名な早咲きの「河津桜」が見頃を迎えます。下田に泊まって、一足早い春を探しに河津や南伊豆へ足を伸ばす、なんて欲張りな旅もおすすめです。春本番には、下田公園のソメイヨシノや、山々に咲く山桜が街を美しく彩ります。
In February, the nationally famous early-blooming "Kawazu Sakura" reaches its peak in the neighboring town of Kawazu. We also recommend staying in Shimoda and stretching your legs to Kawazu to look for early spring. When spring is in full swing, cherry blossoms beautifully color the town.
AJISAI
あじさい（6月）
Hydrangeas (June)
梅雨の季節、下田公園は15万株300万輪ものあじさいに埋め尽くされます。その規模と美しさは、某国民的ミュージシャンが毎年訪れるほど。雨に濡れて輝きを増す色とりどりの花の絨毯と、その向こうに広がる下田港の景色は、訪れる人々を魅了してやみません。
During the rainy season, Shimoda Park is filled with 150,000 bushes and 3 million hydrangeas. The carpet of colorful flowers that shine brighter when wet in the rain, and the view of Shimoda Port spreading beyond, never cease to fascinate visitors.
SUISEN
水仙（12月〜1月）
Daffodils (Dec-Jan)
冬の寒さの中、爪木崎の海岸では300万本もの野水仙が見ごろを迎えます。吹き付ける潮風に乗って運ばれる甘い香りと、白い花々が織りなす可憐な風景が、心温まるひとときを演出します。伊豆の海の青と、水仙の白のコントラストは、下田でしか見られない冬の絶景です。
In the cold of winter, 3 million wild daffodils reach their peak on the coast of Tsumekizaki. The contrast between the blue of the Izu sea and the white of the daffodils is a spectacular winter view that can only be seen in Shimoda.

下田の暮らしには、いつも温泉が身近にあります。風まち下田から徒歩圏内にも、気軽に立ち寄れる日帰り温泉がたくさん。気分に合わせて、湯めぐりを楽しむのもおすすめです。
Hot springs are always close at hand in Shimoda's life. There are many day-trip hot springs within walking distance from Kazemachi Shimoda. We recommend enjoying a tour of hot springs depending on your mood.

- 昭和湯 (徒歩約5分): 地元の人たちが日常的に利用する、昔ながらの共同浴場。
Showa-yu (About 5 mins on foot): A traditional public bathhouse used daily by locals. - 銀の湯 (車で約15分): 風まちの住人も大好きな、日帰り温泉施設。サウナや食事処も充実。
Gin-no-yu (About 15 mins by car): A day-trip hot spring facility loved by Kazemachi residents. Saunas and dining are also substantial. - 金谷旅館 千人風呂 (車で約20分): 少し足を伸ばせば、日本一の総檜風呂が圧巻の温泉も。
Kanaya Ryokan Sennin-buro (About 20 mins by car): Stretch your legs a bit to find an impressive hot spring with Japan's largest full-cypress bath.
